Skin Conditions Treated With BBL™ BroadBand Light

    BBL Treatments

    What is BBL™ BroadBand Light?

BBL broadband light is innovative technology that improves the tone and texture of the skin, by utilizing a wider spectrum of intense pulsed light (IPL).  It is a safe, gentle, non-invasive treatment.
BBL™ is a versatile treatment for skin concerns, specifically those related to aging and sun damage. BBL can also be used to treat skin conditions such as vascular lesions, pigmented lesions, age spots, acne, skin laxity, and uneven skin tone. It can also be used to get rid of unwanted hair.
Let’s explore some of these conditions in more detail to give you an idea of how versatile BBL is when it comes to skin rejuvenation.
There are various cosmetic treatments now available that produce excellent skin rejuvenation results, but BBL™ Broadband Light is a favorite for many dermatologists.

    Vascular Lesions

Vascular lesions of the skin are abnormal formations of different types of blood vessels. Common vascular lesions include rosacea redness, telangiectasia, and cherry angiomas.
The light energy from the BBL device penetrates the skin and heats the pigment in the vascular lesion. As the heat is absorbed by the targeted areas, the vessels that cause the redness are eliminated.
If you are struggling with rosacea, or any other type of vascular lesion, BBL therapy can repair and improve your condition.

    Pigmented Lesions & Sun Damage

Pigmented lesions are blemishes that appear on the skin as a consequence of excess melanin or brown pigment in the skin, usually due to too much sunlight. They include sun spots, age spots, and freckles, and are usually seen on areas frequently exposed to the sun, such as the face, neck, hands, and legs. Most pigmented lesions are benign, so they don’t pose a serious medical problem.
The heat emitted from the BBL device is absorbed by the dark pigment. It breaks up the pigment and helps restore the skin’s natural tone. The BBL light also stimulates the production of collagen and improves skin tone, making it smoother and more youthful.
If age spots or brown spots are a problem for you, BBL therapy is an effective treatment option.

Wrinkles & Other Signs of Aging

BBL is also very impactful as an anti-aging therapy, as it can be used to combat wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin. It makes the skin look significantly younger, because it improves skin tone and texture.
Patients that have had BBL broadband light treatment to reduce visible signs of aging, report that their skin not only looks more vibrant,  but it feels better as well. When performed at intervals, such as twice a year, BBL has been proven to be effective in the fight against aging.

    How BBL Works

Topical anesthesia is not normally required with BBL therapy, but eye goggles are used to protect the eyes. During the treatment patients will feel a warm sensation as the light penetrates the specific lesions. The BBL light is attracted by the hemoglobin or pigment in the lesion, and the heat generated destroys the fine blood vessels, and unwanted pigment.
The BBL device has adjustable cooling features to enhance patient comfort during treatment. Each pulse of the BBL device is precisely cooled based on the selected temperature, to ensure consistent results.
BBL broadband light also creates a thermal injury that triggers the skin’s natural repair process. This regenerates skin cells and stimulates collagen, contributing to younger looking skin.

    What to Expect After Treatment

After treatment there may be some redness, but this usually resolves within a few hours. Most patients are able to go back to work the following day.  However, patients are advised to avoid strenuous activity and hot showers for at least 2 days after treatment.
The number of BBL treatments needed will depend on the severity of the condition, as well as your desired outcome. However, it typically requires a series of 4-6 treatments spaced about 4 weeks apart, to achieve the best results.
